I first became interested in learning about why dogs act the way they do when one of my own dogs started to behave aggressively towards dogs he didn’t know.
I have since completed three courses in dog behaviour. The first course I completed was through a company called COAPE (Centre Of Applied Pet Ethology) the course was called Man Meets Dog- An Introduction to Canine Behaviour and Living With Your Dog. I passed the course achieving 4 credits at level 1.
The second course I completed was also through COAPE, this one was called Think Dog-A Preliminary Certificate in Canine Behaviour and Canine/Human Relationships. I passed this course achieving 12 credits at level 2.
The last course I completed was through a company called Compass Education and Training. This course was called Higher Certificate Cynology and I achieved a distinction.
I am not studying at the moment as I am concentrating on getting my business up and running but I will go on and do more courses once I am well established.
One of the projects I had to do was to go and watch dog training classes and report what I saw and what I thought about the way they were run, it was here that I met Kristina Glover (Pets in Practise). I would go along and help her run her classes, I learnt a lot here about dogs body language and the way they interact. I now run the adult dog classes for Kris in Burghfield and Binfield.
I decided to set up a dog walking service because we had quite a few enquiries from people attending the classes about dog walkers and as I wasn’t happy in the job I was in I thought I would be good for walking other people dogs especially as I have the knowledge that I do. I love being outside and walking and I have great fun walking dogs.
